KICK OFF : Start of the game.
THROW IN : When the ball crosses the touch lines, the ball is thrown by the player of the team to which it is awarded, into play. The only occasion when the ball can be handled by a player other than goalkeeper.
GOAL KICK: The ball crossing the goal lines by the touch of an opposition team (goal lines are the lines extending from the end of each goal post upto the corner spot), the ball is placed and kicked into play by the goalkeeper or any other player of the team from a designated spot in front of the goal posts.
CORNER KICK: When the ball crosses the goal lines by the touch of a player playing from within that half, the ball is placed and kicked into play from the corner spot, by the opposing team.
FREE KICK: A ball placed at the spot of fowl and kicked into play. It is normally outside the penalty box.
PENALTY KICK: A foul committed within the penalty box on the opposition player is awarded as a penalty kick, when the referee feels that the foul committed is warranting such an award.

When both the teams draw level at the full time of play, the teams are asked to play extra time and during that period whichever team scores first, that team is declared as the winner. Such a goal is called "Golden Goal". It was first tried in the 1998 world cup in which France beat Paraguay.

When the teams remains level even after extra time, this practice of deciding the match is adopted in which each team is alternatively asked to take penalty kicks for five times each and the team that leads the goal tally is declared as winner.
