Tribal oriented population with NAGA tribes dominating the tribal rulings. In 1816, Burmese took over the region and had it under its control till 1892, when British took over, and administered under East Bengal Assam province. After independence, it was part of Assam and then on 1.12.1963, it was carved out of Assam and made into a separate state.
