CHANDRADEVA - son of Mahichandra a Gahadvala dynasty ruler. He inflicted a crushing defeat on Gopala of the Rashtrakutas. He conquered all the territories from Allahabad to Benares (Varnasi) and made it the second capital.
GOVINDACHANDRA - Grandson of Chandradev. He was the greatest king of this dynasty. He annexed Magadha from Pala dynasty and Malwa from the Chandellas.
LAKSHMIDHARA a minister under him was a notable literary personality. His important work was KRITYA KALPATARU or KALPADRUMA, a book on law and procedures.
JAYACHANDRA - grand son of Govindachandra. He ascended the throne in 1170. He was killed in a battle with Muiz-ud-din Muhammad Ghori in 1193 between Chandwar and Etawah. Although the territory was not annexed by Muslims, as Jayachandra's son Harishchandra as a vassal to the Muslim ruler Shihab-ud-din, but certainly made the beginning for a larger Muslim rule in the years to come in India.
