FACE OFF : Starting of the game is called so. The referee drops the puck between two opponents at the center. Face off is used for every resumption of play after a break. Face off can be done at nine designated spots.
OFF SIDE : (1) If a player precedes the puck into the offensive zones the play is called and a "face off" take place at neutral zone. (2) A pass across a blue line and the centerline (red) is ruled as off side pass, also referred to as two line pass and a face off takes place at the origin of the pass spot.
ICING: Shooting the puck to the end of the ice from behind the center ice red line. If the puck crosses the opposing goal line untouched and is then retrieved by an opposing player, icing is called. Considered a delaying tactic because it results in stoppage of play and a face off in the offending team's defensive zone takes place.
