Q1. Who founded the Yadava dynasty?
BHILLAMMA V - 1173 - 1192 Although there were quite a few bits and pieces rulers of this dynasty, who were feudatories to the Rashtrakutas and later to the Chalukyas. When both these kingdoms started crumbling, BHILLAMMA V laid the foundation for this dynasty which later came to rule for nearly 100 years, territories that was from Tungabhadra to Narmada which included Maharashtra, North Karnataka and parts of Madhya Pradesh. Their capital was Devagiri ( today's Daulatabad,Maharashtra).

JAITUGI - 1192-1200 - He strengthened his kingdom by defeating the Kakatiyas of Warangal, and also the Malava, Lata and Gurjara Kings in the west. Lakshmidhara, son of Bhaskaracharya the famous astronomer was in his court.
SINGHANA II - 1200-1247 - The most powerful ruler of this dynasty. He defeated Hoysalas, the Paramaras of Malwa and the Chalukyas of Gujarat.Thus the Yadava kingdom reached its zenith in the Deccan region. He was a great patron of music and literature. SANGITA RATNAKARA of Sarangadeva, an important work on music was written during his reign.Anantadeva and Changadeva, two famous astronomers lived during this period. Changadeva established an Astronomy School at Patana in Khandesh in honour of his grandfather astronomer Bhaskaracharya.
KANNARA - 1247-1261 - He concentrated on consolidating his powers through his able ministers and generals.
MAHADEVA - 1261 - 1271 - He fought a successful war against Kakatiyas. He failed in his attempt to bring Hoysala King Narasimha II under his control. Hemadri, the "Smriti" writer was an important jester in his court.
RAMACHANDRA - 1271 - 1312 - His tenure started the beginning of an end of the dynasty, as he failed in his repeated attempts against Hoysalas. In 1296, Alauddin Khilji also subdued him with retention of his kingdom. He suffered more set backs, taken as a prisoner and then allowed to retain his kingdom as a vassal of the Sultan.
SANKARADEVA - He was defeated by Malik Kafur (sent by Alauddin Khilji) and was killed in the battle. Thus the Yadava kingdom was annexed by the Sultans and ended.
