6. HARIDWAR : It means " Gateway to God". The most holy place for Hindus. Kumbh Mela is held here once in every 12 years, attended by crores of people. Roorkee is another town with a few industries like BHEL and IIT. The city Roorkee also holds the record of having the first engineering college in India, which later became an IIT.
7. NAINITAL: Lies on the Kumaon Hills - a famous Hill resort. Famous for Some British established educational institutions, and few places of interet. Named after local deity "Naina Devi". Haldwani is another town with few educational institutions like Medical College etc.,
8. PAURI GARHWAL : A hilly place of interest for nature lovers.
9. PITHORGARH: A hilly place with few places of interest. It lies on the route to Mount Kailash and Manasarovar. Has a few National Parks. There are many other places of interest in this district.
10.RUDRAPRAYAG : The town lies at the confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers. Kedarnath the holy town lies about 60 Kms from here.
11.TEHRI GARHWAL : Tehri is the HQ. It was a princely state. The name Tehri is believed to have been derived from " Tri Hari" signifying that the place washes away three types of sins born out of "thought" "word" and "deed". It is here a major dam is being built which is objected to by "Chipko" movement headed by Sundar Lal Bahuguna.
12. UDHAM SINGH NAGAR : Rudrapur is the HQ. GB Pant University of Agriculture is located here.
