Q1. Who founded the Eastern Chalukya dynasty and which region was ruled by it?
VISHNUVARDHANA (624-641). This dynasty ruled the Vengi region of Andhra Pradesh. Actually Vishnuvardhana was the brother of Pulakesin II of Badami . When Pulakesin II conquered/subdued the King of Pishtapura (now Pithapuram in Godavari dt., AP) and appointed Vishnu--vardhana as the vice royal of the conquered region, which he later converted into an independent dynastic kingdom. He ruled for 18 years. Subsequent rulers were not that significant nor there was much of events of great importance.

VIJAYADITYA - Protracted struggle with the Rashtrakutas.
VISHNUVARDHANA II - He was forced to make peace with the Rashtrakuta king Dhruva and gave his daughter Silamahadevi in marriage to him. This marked the beginning of subdued relationship of Vengi with the Rashtrakutas.
VIJAYAADITYA II - He was one of the most powerful rulers of Eastern Chalukyas and ruled for 40 years.
VIJAYADITYA III - He had an aggressive and impressive imperialism, in which he was ably assisted by his minister Vinayadisaraman and celebrated military genius Panduranga. He was able to defeat Krishna II of Rashtrakutas, brought the Kalinga and Kosala kingdoms under submission.During his reign the kingdom extended from Mahendragiri in the north to the Pulicat lake in the South. Thus he was the greatest Eastern Chalukya ruler and ruled for 44 long years.
BHIMA I - He was more towards religious works and built the Bhimavaramand Drakshramam in the East Godavari Dist of Andhra Pradesh.
JATA JODA BHIMA - After a series of small time rulers, he came to powerand ruled for 27 years. He was defeated by Chola king Raja Raja I and installed his son Danarnava (Saktivarman I) on the Chalukya throne, Vengi. Saktivarman's accession to the vengi's throne, it ceased to be an independent kingdom and the Chola-Chalukya kingdom became one alliance with Chola rulers dominating the throne. The last of the combined dynasty rule was Kulottunga I of Chola and Vijayaaditya VII of the Chalukyans. When Kulottunga I invaded Vengi, Vijayaditya VII fled to Kalinga, took shelter with Rajaraja Devendravarman and died in 1075, with it came the end of Eastern Chalukya dynasty.
