RATHORS OF MARWAR - 1384 – 1562

Rathors are basically from Kanauj. They had different clans in them and each of them had been ruling different parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and parts of Uttar Pradesh and also in the east in Chahatisgarh, in bits and pieces. But the notable Rathor rulers were from Bikaner, Marwar, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Amber and Ranathambhor. Although their rule had begun during mid 13th century, their power reached its recognition from CHUNDA who ruled between 1384-1423. However, he lost his life very soon. He was succeeded by Jodha (1438-1489 who built the fort of Jodhpur, founded the town and made its capital. But the greatest ruler of Marwar was MALDEVA or MALDEO who ruled from 1532 to 1562. The power of Rathors reached its highest as is evident from the fact that Sher Shah who entered into a conflict, had to enter into peace with Maldeva.
