A form of visual art, consisting of images or characters combined with texts in speech balloons or image captions.

Speech or thoughts of a given character highlighted in the form of a balloon like figure, closer to the character concerned. They may vary in sizes and style. They are known by different names: "Speech Bubble", "Thought Bubble", "Scream Bubble", "Broadcast Bubble", "Word Balloon", "Whisper Bubbles", "Icicle Bubbles", and "Colored Bubbles" - each one of them expressing different emotional situations of the character.

Generally used for narration purposes - square and connected to the edge of the panel. Mostly they are colored to indicate the difference between them and the bubbles used by the characters which are most often "White".

1894-95 - USA: by Richard F. Outcault. "Yellow Kid" was the first comic strip created by him - and appeared in "Truth" magazine. Mickey Dugan was the lead character and the first strip was named "Hoogan's Alley". The character with a bald head, out-toothed child with a yellow color overall.

Kim Kelly of USA created the same. It was launched in 1948 and ended in 1975. POGO the Possum (a marsupial character) and Albert the alligator were the principal characters.

PEGGY ALACAZAR : The fiery, red headed woman with curlers on her head and wife of General Alcazar.
PROF.HECTOR ALEMBICK: A sigillographer - an expert on seals.
ALAN THOMPSON: Captain Haddock's first officer in the ship, involved in smuggling and other criminal activities.
PROFESSOR CALCULUS: A distracted, deaf professor, who invented many objects used in the series.
MR.BHOLWHINKEL: A financier and owner of the Bholwinkel Bank and Golden oil firm (Petrol).
AL CAPONE: A real life gangster, bootlegger, smuggler etc., who made an appearance in Tin Tin comics.
CHING CHONG CHEN: A Chinese looking boy character, a friend of Tin Tin.
CAPTAIN HADDOCK : A weak and alcoholic character, whose blabbers are humorous.
OLIVERA DA FIGUIERA: A native of Portugal, and a salesman with an ability to sell the most trivial objects also.
GOLDSTEIN: A member of the underground movement physically resembling TinTin, leading to entanglements.
JO, ZETTE and JOCKO: Jo a boy; Zette - a girl and Jocko - a monkey.
COLONEL JORGEN : A sworn enemy of Tin Tin - A syldarian, out to betray his country one way or the other.
MITSHI RATO : A sadistic Japanese double agent.
DR J W MULLER : A doctor by profession, using his position for illegal activities.
NESTOR: Butler of Malinspike Hall.
PABLO: Native of the fictional country San Theodoros - a hit man hired to kill Tin Tin.
QUICK AND FLUPKE : Two street urchins, boys, unintentionally cause trouble, leading to annoyance with their parents & police.
RASTA POPOLOUS: Greek American Tycoon inspired by the Greek shipping Tycoon Oasis. He is Tin Tin's arch-hewesis.
RIDGEWELL: An English explorer.
POISTRKUT: An eye patch wearing Estonian pilot and radio expert.
COL.SPONZ: A veteran spymaster and an enemy of the main protagonists.
GENL. TAPIOCA: Arch enemy of Tin Tin's friend Genl. Alcazar.
THOMSON & THOMSON : The two clumsy detectives who provide much of the comic throughout Tin Tin series.
JOLYON WAGO : A character disliked by captain Haddock, an intensely gregarious simple and overbearing man who enters the scene often uninvited. An insurance salesman selling "Rock Bottom" brand insurance.
WANG CHEN YEE : Chinese leader of a secret society or brotherhood called the "Sons of the Dragon" which was dedicated to fight against opium.
FRANK WOLF : A scientist who assists Prof. Calculus.
ZORRINO : An Indian Peruvian boy who sells oranges in the mountain town of Janga, for a living, who helps Tin Tin in locating Prof. Calculus who was kidnapped.
