NAGABHATTA I - 8th century AD - He successfully defended the western India from the invasion of the Arabs. He left a peaceful principality of Malwa, parts of Rajputana and Gujarat.
VATSARAJA - nephew of Nagabhatta I. He defeated the Bhaidi clan, keeping his seat of authority of Kanauj. He also defeated Dharmapala of Bengal and thus created a major empire. He, however, suffered a major defeat at the hands of Rashtrakuta king Dhruv. He was considered as the founder of the Gurjara - Pariharas dynasty.
NAGABHATTA II - To avenge the defeat of his father, he overran Kanauj and made it his capital and also fought successfully against Dharmapala by advancing upto Monghyr. During his tenure the Pratihara empire extended upto parts of Rajputana, and large parts of Uttar Pradesh.
Mahendrapal I - 890 to 910;
Bhoja II -910 to 913;
Mahipala I - 913 to 944 and
Mahendrapal III - 944 to 948.
These rulers retained and sustained their territory. The later rulers were insignificant and the empire started fading with the conquest of Kanauj by Md. Ghazni in 1008. After some years of survival the empire got completely desestablished by 1036 AD.
