MUIZ-UD-DIN - also called Shihab-ud-din - of the Ghurid Empire of Turks was the first to capture Multan (now in Pakistan) in 1175 AD. Gradually, he captured Lahore and Sind regions also. Thus these regions came under the Ghurid empire.

The first battle of Tarain (near Delhi) was between Muiz-ud-din and Prithviraj Chauhan in 1191 in which Muiz-ud-din was made to turn back. In the process, Prithviraj Chauhan recaptured Tabarhinda (now Bhatinda in Punjab) which was earlier captured by Muiz-ud-din in 1189.

It was again between Muiz-ud-din and Prithviraj Chauhan in 1192 in which Muiz-ud-din won. Prithviraj was taken as a prisoner, but he was allowed to rule Ajmer for sometime, but later executed. In the battle, about one lakh Rajput soldiers and Tomar prince of Delhi Govindaraja also died.

It was the battle between Jayachandra of the Gahadavala dynasty of Kanauj and Qutub-ud-din Aibak, the commander of Muiz-ud-din Muhammad in 1194. In the battle, Jayachandra was killed and Kanauj captured. In the process, by 1200 AD, the entire western region, parts of central India and North India - from Benares to Punjab and from Gwalior to Anhilwara (Patan in Pakistan) came under the Turks.

Bhaktiyar Khilji - a slave and servant of Qutub-ud-din Aibak, in the late 12th century.

In 1206, he was assassinated by a Kokhar tribe (Punjab) on the banks of river Jhelum.
